You also presume the US is ready to give up it’s presence in Japan, Korea, the Philippines. freedom of navigation to avoid conflict with an authoritarian state already crumbling from very misguided Covid and economic policies. I doubt it.
Let’s see if the pendulum swings back to some sort of balance. Don’t forget the corruption at the heart of China’s state companies building all these fantastic sounding weapons. Results can be similar to Russia’s current experience.
I agree Taiwan needs to awake and start making the tough choices. Universal draft with two year real training for all young men and women for a start for both green and blue governments. Frankly, every Asian country should do this faced with a rising PRC not to mention other potential fishing, religious, oil field and just downright hostile jealous or grudge holding neighbors.
I have reread Michael Walsh's Last Stand (via audio book) about two dozen times. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the "virtues" needed to fight to the end. And otherwise it's a great book...gritty, humorous, humbling...but I walked away from that book convinced that Taiwan has little or no piss and vinegar...
