5 Key Problems For Taiwan's Military
Chris Pocock
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - These comments are those of Chris Pocock, a long-time military writer who divides his time between the UK, Malaysia, and Taiwan. Please consult my interview with Pocock to learn more about his research/books.
His comments are common sense now amongst military thinkers, but I invite you, the reader, to post your counter narratives in the Comment Section.
1. China is already conducting intense hybrid warfare against Taiwan, with constant cyber attacks on its media and the military.
2. It can indeed blockade the island with ease now, and dare the US to intervene.
3. Ditto if it decides to take the offshore islands close to the mainland, which are indefensible (Kinmen, Matsu, and some smaller ones)
4. It has encouraged and fostered political opposition to the mainstream parties (one of which leans towards China anyway - the KMT).
5. It is developing Fifth Columns on the island, which it describes as compatriots, of course
Given all this, it may continue to play 'the long game' until Taiwan succumbs without a fight.
Fifth Column = a group within a country at war who are sympathetic to or working for its enemies.
What percent of Taiwans military/military leadership do you think has been compromised by China? With all the recent cases hitting the news it sure sounds like this is just the tip of the iceberg on this front…
