Woke Seeps Into U.S.-Taiwan Defense Conference
SATIRE - Gender Pronouns Only
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - It has finally happened. Someone from the Woke Ideology has infiltrated the 2023 U.S.-Taiwan Defense Conference as a Speaker (1-3 October 2023). The October conference normally is a mix of death merchants, military analysts, former spooks, and retired Taiwan and U.S. military officials. Mostly monsters wanting to kill as many Chinese Communists as possible.
So how did someone like Laura Rosenberger with no boots on the ground experience become the Chair of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT)?
If you need a content moderator for gender pronouns or the construction of safe spaces with balloons and Teddy Bears, my vote is for Laura.
In March, she replaced the legendary James Moriarty as AIT Chair of the Board.
Moriarty led the General Affairs (Political) Section at the AIT from 1994 to 1998. In 1998–2001, he served as Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. He shaped the U.S. response to Chinese missile tests in the Taiwan Strait, the U.S. bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, and the ramming of a U.S. EP-3 Aries off China’s Hainan Island.
Moriarty’s father was captured during the Battle of the Bulge then tossed into a frozen well by German soldiers for fun. And this was after pneumonia turned his coughs red with blood. The ultimate metaphor for life’s hero narrative.
How does a god like Moriarty, whether retiring or not, get replaced by someone who writes about conflict resolution with no experience in China or Taiwan or even in kinetic warfare?
A former U.S. State Department officer summed it perfectly:
The AIT [Chair] assignment has always been a terminal one, typically for career officers at the end of their careers, or following their retirement, and sometimes for political appointees serving "at the pleasure of" higher-ups. In the earliest years, the post went to career people who were deemed "a safe pair of hands." Then the Hill decided it really should be a political position, and the tug of war began, resulting in the appointment of losers by both parties (James Wood by the Democrats, Therese Shaheen by the Republicans, both of whom were quietly fired from their jobs, not an easy thing to do because Wood was genuinely close to Clinton and Shaheen was genuinely close to the Bush family).
Laura worked foreign policy issues for President Obama who blocked the sale of new F-16s to Taiwan. This will make her particularly popular at the U.S.-Taiwan Defense Conference.
How does someone even get invited to a defense conference who openly promoted China over Taiwan in the White House?
How does that even happen?
Is Taiwan not the center of the universe now at the Pentagon and Indo-Pacific Command?
Now with that carnival clown in the Chair, the Conference has no choice but to invite someone who has the credentials of an ideologue: BAs in Sociology, Psychology, and Women’s Studies from Penn State (2002), and then a MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from the American University School of International Service in 2004.
To make the Conference goers cringe even more will be her LARPing leadership on the podium to educate the monsters in the room on the dangers of being a monster.
I would kill for a video of the neutered men at the Conference, many who have been planning their entire adult lives for a war like no other with China, where America could lose the Pacific, all sitting quietly with their shit eating grins, politely applauding Laura quoting John Lennon’s “Give Peace a Chance”…with them mumbling kum bay ya, my Lord, kum bay ya! My Lord, kill me now!
After the Obama administration, she became special assistant to President Biden and the National Security Council's senior director for China and Taiwan.
I know, “what the fuck?”
She was not there long enough which suggests they wanted to get rid of her in a hurry. They sure and the hell did not want to send her to Beijing as a diplomat. That requires Tier 1 diplomatic and/or intelligence experience.
I guess she could have stamped passports.
Even the Taiwanese are not impressed.
She congratulated the Taiwan Little League for placing 3rd in the 2023 World Series.
In Taiwan, such a gesture is an insult and obviously she has no clue of the religious ferocity Taiwanese have for Little League.
But wait!
She has managed to gerrymander her CV in such a way as to give her the appearance of…of…what exactly?
It reads like a long list of failed internships:
She previously served in a range of positions at the State Department and the NSC, including Chief of Staff to then-Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken and as Senior Advisor to then-Deputy National Security Advisor Blinken, NSC Director for China and Korea, Bilateral Political Unit Chief on the State Department’s China Desk, Special Assistant to Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Bill Burns on the Asia-Pacific, and Foreign Affairs Officer in the State Department’s Office of Korean Affairs. Ms. Rosenberger also served as Director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy and Senior Fellow at The German Marshall Fund (GMF) of the United States, where she focused on authoritarian threats to democracies.
Has the world gone insane?
In Washington they reward failure. Everyone gets a trophy. But third place? Grow a pair, Laura!

We need a woman with balls in this position. I nominate Rachel Levine.
OMG, I couldn't stop laughing
What a fantastic article
What a summary of her career
