Taiwan's Stealth Technology Capabilities
Did China Get Access to Taiwan Ships and Aircraft via Duplicity???
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - At the 2001 Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition (TADTE), a new stealth technology option was introduced to foreign customers.
It was also an effort to boost interest in the military at the same time it was becoming bored with it.
The Taipei-based Duplus Enterprise Company provided rare documents on the company’s microwave absorber and stealth technology that included anti-detection coatings for multiple wavelength spectrophotometry camouflage for aircraft and ships.
At the time, a company representative said that the 2001 Black Wolf Test Program on an AT-3 Tzu Chung Advance Jet Trainer (AJT) resulted in a 80% radar cross section (RCS) reduction.
In 2006, a test was conducted on the Hai Ou-class (Seagull-class) missile patrol boat with a 99% RCS reduction.
The representative said the military was considering the technology on both the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of the Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF) and the Kuang Hua VI-class missile boat.
It was not until recently that I realized via a retired Taiwan naval officer that Duplus was not Taiwanese, but Chinese. And that Taiwan’s military-run National Chungshan Institute of Science of Technology (NCSIST) had plans to experiment on stealth technologies on ships, but it was discontinued for unexplained reason.
I contacted the local representative but his phone nor email worker. I also contacted the Chinese company with no response.
Note the brochure’s address is for the Taipei representative of Duplus. The brochure never mentions the actual owner is based in China: Zhangjiagang Dulpus Chemical.
So now the question becomes…did the Taiwan military allow a Chinese company access to two platforms for testing a stealth technology? And if so, what other platforms did it have access later? The represenative stated goals were access to the KH-6 and the IDF MLU.
And now that we realize the screw up, will there be an investigation?
