Taiwan Reserves Train at Camp Grayling

Reserve Officers Going to Michigan

By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德

TAIPEI - Approximately 30 military officers under Taiwan’s All-out Defense Mobilization Agency (ADMA) will take courses at Camp Grayling in Michigan this June.

Past U.S. military evaluations have found Taiwan’s reserve system inadequate and in dire need of modernization to handle a potential invasion by China.

Camp Grayling is the largest U.S. National Guard training base in the U.S.

The Taiwan delegation will learn basic U.S. National Guard drilling and training for Military Operations on Urbanized Terrain (MOUT), Emergency Operation Centers, Company/Battalion Command Post Operations, Integrating Command Posts, Battlefield Intelligence Preparation, Stratified Command, and Combat Resilience.

This follows the 2019 All-Out Defense Mobilization Readiness Act. Under the Act, according to the 2021 ROC National Defense Report - Resilience, reserve forces will begin reforming their mobilization capabilities with a focus on three areas: 1) merging the reserve and mobilization management systems as one, 2) achieving unity of regular and reserve forces, and 3) promoting interagency cooperation.
