Taiwan Defends Against Decap Strike
Taiwan Marines Deployed to Songshan Airport
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - To defend against a “decapitation strikes” on the capital of Taipei, the 66th Marine Regiment has deployed 100 enlisted and officers to guard the Taipei International Airport (Songshan Airport) in support of the 202nd Military Police Command (responsible for Taipei).
The airport is actually two integrated facilities: public airport for domestic air travel and the Songshan Air Force Base for the National Airborne Service Corps (NASC) under the Ministry of the Interior (MoI) for search and rescue (SAR) missions with eight Airbus Helicopters AS365 Dauphin helicopters and 14 Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters;
And for the Air Force for the transport of troops and VIP personnel: C-130H Hercules, Boeing B737-800 VIP and Fokker 50 VIP.
Note to readers: I wrote about the problem of a Chinese decapitation strike on Taipei in the Asia Times, “The Year to Fear for Taiwan: 2006”.
I suppose I do have a crystal ball after all.
