Secretive NSB General Kisses Maiden
"A Kiss is Just a Kiss" - Gene Kelly, 1951
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - Note to reader, the National Security Bureau (NSB) is a military organization, not civilian. It is like the U.S. CIA, but with domestic powers. Within the NSB is the Security Service Center (SSC), responsible for protecting the President and other Tier One political elites.
BTW: A hat tip to Ross Feingold for pointing this article out to me, as always his sense of humor over political mismanagement is spot on (@RossFeingold).
What makes this article of interest, is the extreme secrecy the NSB guards itself.
There are rarely scandals or even references to NSB operations in the media. At the end of this article of links to previous NSB articles I have written for your edification.
Regarding the term “Major General”, within the U.S. military it is a two-star general, but in Taiwan there is no equivalent to a U.S. one-star Brigadier General.
So, Xie is a one-star “Major General”. At that rank, he should be able to retire comfortably without too much complaint, if forced to retire.
One cultural issue that the readers should consider is that Taiwan is in the festive seasons of Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival (which just concluded), and drinking and merrymaking even by Tier One political and military officials/officers is not unusual.
