TAIPEI - Map Reveals Russian Ship Suspiciously Hovering Near Undersea Taiwan Cables
According to a map, a Russian cargo vessel spent weeks above Taiwan’s undersea communication cables, raising concerns about possible Russian interference.
The Russian cargo vessel, Vasily Shukshin, flying the flag of Belize, departed from Russia's Vostochnyy port on 8 December 2024.
After a brief stop in South Korea, it lingered near Taiwan's coast on 19 December 2024, as reported by Ray Powell, the director of SeaLight, a maritime analysis group affiliated with Stanford University, on X (formerly Twitter) on 14 January 2025.
Vasily Shukshin (IMO: 9057288) is a General Cargo and is sailing under the flag of Belize. Her length overall (LOA) is 89.48 meters and her width is 13.4 meters.
