India - Taiwan Cold War Scandal
Spider Web of Cloak and Dagger
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - I have always been a big fan of espionage in India. I have had no major opportunities to cover India in my job experience, though I attended three Aero India Expos in Bangalore (2007, 2009, 2011) for coverage of military equipment for sale.
For the most part, I have not written about it as extensively as I would have loved to. I did one analysis of a Cold War biography connected to India, I Was A CIA Agent In India: An Analysis (2015), beyond that Indian cloak-and-dagger intrigue has been beyond my reach.
That is why I was delighted to find in my old clip files an article about an espionage scandal involving India and Taiwan. I am currently sifting through my old clip files to trash or use, in an effort to clear my file cabinets.
The article below is from the Hong Kong-based Far Eastern Economic Review (13 February 1986): 12-13. FEER was considered the best investigative magazine in Asia until the early 1990s when it suffered economic problems and finally shuttered.
