Hsiung Feng III Air Flight Test

Taiwan’s Newest Anti-Ship Missile IDF Flight Test

By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德

TAIPEI - I never thought the supersonic Hsiung Feng III (Brave Wind) anti-ship/land-attack cruise missile would ever be equipped on a fighter aircraft.

But the Taiwanese have mounted these bad boys on an upgrade variant of the Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF-C/D) via the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing (Tainan Air Base).

The missile is dubbed the Aircraft Carrier Killer due to range (100 km/62 miles), speed (Mach 3.5/2,700 mph), and warhead (225 kg/500 lb). It has proved itself a nasty beast and probably should be dubbed the Honey Badger.

It is outfitted with a ramjet engine for extra boost.

It is currently deployed on navy vessels and mobile land-based batteries along the coast.
