False Alarm Embarrasses Taiwan Military

TAIPEI - On Tuesday (9 January) at 15.04 my phone buzzed with a message:
The city of Taipei did not hit the air raid sirens. So it was a bit confusing. It turned out to be a satellite launch from China.
In many ways, unlike the average Taiwanese, I felt it actually showed proactive discipline and not reactive.
Taiwanese are not normally proactive. Some sort of cultural software problem.
So the General who ordered the alert should not be punished in my opinion.
China’s ballistic missile/cruise missile barrage would take about 20 minutes to wipe out virtually all of Taiwan’s command and control nodes, air bases, radars, air defense, etc.
The Chinese are indeed coming. Have no illusions, stop living in denial, and do not become jaded by false alarms.
And if anything, the alert demonstrates Taiwan’s early warning radar (EWR) at Loshan Mountain is working. I can guarantee it will not be working five minutes after it spots a missile attack. It is a primary target.
