A Thirty-Year Odyssey

TAIPEI - 2024 marks a thirty-year odyssey for Dr. Alexander Huang.
In 1994, Huang published his first substantive article in the renowned U.S. Naval War College Review.
The article, “The Chinese Navy’s Offshore Defense Strategy”, came at a time when there were few Western specialists on the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
Huang is not an ordinary bookish academic. He served in the Taiwan navy and his experience in D.C. over the decades has made him a man in the know.
I must say, based on my interaction over the last 30 years, he is neither arrogant nor vindictive.
He could have remained in Washington and raked in the think tank consultancy money, but instead he returned to Taiwan to help his fellow citizens. His Council on Strategic and Wargaming Studies teaches college age Taiwanese just about everything they need to know about warfare.
