Chinese Defense Expo - CIDEX 2023
Pay Attention America - China Sends Message
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - Since 1998 the China International Defence Electronics Exhibition (CIDEX) has been the show that too many in the U.S. intelligence community have ignored.
This year’s show (26-28 June) included companies from the U.S., Europe and most likely even Taiwan pushing their wares to China’s defense industry.
I encourage all of you to take a close look at the photographs of 2023 CIDEX via Global Times.
This is one of those defense exhibitions in China that few really know much about. It is one that I have gathered data on via exhibition lists that have been difficult to access.
Past lists that include even Taiwan and United States companies can be found CIDEX - Death List or Wish List.
I have been a regular of Airshow China (Zhuhai), but I have lusted over CIDEX forever. Why not attend? Money…Beijing is a bridge too far. Whereas Airshow China requires only a 30 minute flight to Hong Kong then a high speed ferry to Zhuhai.
And Airshow China is far more target rich, but CIDEX is the one show that many defense journalists who have been to it say is truly concentrated evil.

The Bridge Too Far reference might be especially appropriate. Could you actually attend CIDEX while NOT violating the PRC's latest national security law?
