TAIPEI - China’s recent Winter Exercise (9-11 December) around Taiwan set off alarms at The Jamestown Foundation in Washington, D.C.
The storied think tank is well-known as an incubator of talent of former U.S. intelligence officers. Of note, former CIA counterintelligence analyst on China, Peter Mattis, who is now the President of The Jamestown Foundation.
In a 20 December report, Instead of Joint Sword-2024C, PLA Intensifies Winter Naval Training, by Cheng-kun Ma and K. Tristan Tang, Taiwan appears doomed as China pulls off an unusual Winter Exercise that encircled the island and cast doubt that the U.S. could manage a future crisis with an ever-increasingly modern navy and air force at Beijing’s fingertips.
