China Landpower Studies Center (CLSC)
New Outlet via Strategic Studies Institute under U.S. Army War College
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - A new war studies program focusing on China was opened in January. It is too early to know whether it will be successful, but I felt it was necessary to point out this new venture.
The China Landpower Studies Center (CLSC) under the Strategic Studies Institute via the U.S. Army War College, is run by Colonel Richard D. Butler (Director) and Joshua Arostegui (Chairman).
At present, the articles do not impress, particularly China’s land warfare capabilities at the kinetic and tactical level.
However, CLSC has only been in existence for two months. And I say, give them some time.
It would be impressive to finally read in-depth articles and analysis on urban warfare, amphibious warfare, airborne and/or special operations capabilities, even insights on the Chinese Marine Corps.
This might be the outlet we have been waiting for to fill the vacuum in land warfare studies on China.
What we definitely do not need is more policy papers. Policy changes like the wind.
Kinetic warfare does not. Gravity is a killer.
