NOTE TO READER: After I originally wrote this article in February, I received these insights from a rational and experienced veteran of China/Taiwan diplomacy and intelligence. I would like to share his thoughts in anonymity, even if I disagree, due to my great respect for the man and his career.
Xi, in the grand tradition of Sunzi and the authors of the "36 Stratagems," would plainly prefer NOT to invade, which is to say he would hope that Taiwan someday soon "wakes up, smells the Chrysanthemum tea, and patriotically 'comes back' to the motherland." His hopes and patience have been wearing thin for some time. Nevertheless, much as he would like to seal his legacy, he must as a national leader take into account what the Soviets (and later Andy Marshall on our side) liked to call "the correlation of forces." It's not just a matter of whether the PLA has achieved supremacy (over any combination of forces in the East China Sea theater of operations) but whether the PRC has the domestic economic strength and array of international relationships required to sustain itself in the wake of very predictable economic sanctions. No doubt some of China's finer minds are constantly grappling with such things. And there is, of course, for any Chinese military planner a set of questions relating to unknowns (does the US have capabilities, e.g., in electronic/information/cyber warfare, that have not been revealed and could stop a Chinese military action in its tracks?). Plus, with the Ukraine situation reminding of the perils of over-confidence, what kind of domestic situation in Taiwan would a "victorious" PLA face ... and could it deal with it more or less swiftly?

Xi Makes It Clear - America's Political, Military, Cultural Division Gives China Free Reign
By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德
TAIPEI - In light of the political and societal chaos in America as the Presidential election nears, including the war in the Middle East and Russia/Ukraine, China will be tempted to act.
It is my opinion, Taiwan is nearing that moment to think the unthinkable.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) must begin negotiations on terms of surrender with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
That is, if Beijing cares to even consider the DPP a legitimate political party.
The CCP has always favored the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), and this was made obvious during then President Ma Ying-jeou’s interactions with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during the 2015 Singapore Summit.
Perhaps Ma will become the Governor of the Province of Taiwan? A transitional leader before things go sideways like Hong Kong?
As I have warned, China’s upcoming military exercises during the Spring and Fall are the perfect opportunity to launch the surprise of surprises.
It does not matter if it is this year or 2025 or 2026, but I do not think the CCP wants Trump back in the White House. The Democratic Party sold Taiwan out during the Obama Administration and the Clinton Criminal Syndicate.
Do you think the American military will save Taiwan? Not based on this Youtube video below:
