2018 CCK Air Force Base/Anti-Airborne Operation

Media Handbook

By Wendell Minnick (Whiskey Mike) 顏文德

TAIPEI - This is another data dump for researchers. All documents below can be used by paid subscribers in reports, papers, books. Please footnote Wendell Minnick as the source.

This exercise was part of the larger 34th Han Kuang Exercise held annually.

For additional information on the Taiwan Army please consult the 500-page Taiwan Army Weapons and Equipment, including Marine Corps (2022).

Equipment list at the bottom of the briefing below includes: CM32 Clouded Leopard APC, M56 Smokescreen Generator, PSYOP Vehicle, Speaker Truck, MIM-104 Patriot Missile Battery, Skyguard Air Defense Missile System, MIM-23 Hawk Air Defense Missile System, AN/TWQ-1 Avenger Air Defense Missile System, M60A1 Main Battle Tank, OH-58 Observation/Attack Helicopter, UH-60M Black Hawk Utility Helicopter, CH-47 Chinook Cargo Helicopter, AH-1W SuperCobra Attack Helicopter, AH-64E Apache Longbow Attack Helicopter, F-16A/B Block 20 Fighter and Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF).

Units under the 10th Corps: 1st Tactical Fighter Wing (IDF); 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing (IDF); 4th Tactical Fighter Wing (F-16); 5th Tactical Fighter Wing (F-16); 6th Composite Wing (C-130H); 36th Chemical Group; 3rd Special Operation Battalion, under the Army Aviation and Special Operation Command, as well as the 601st Aviation Brigade (AH-64E) and 602nd Aviation Brigade (OH-58D, AH-1W, UH-60, CH-47); 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion; 586 Armored Brigade; and the 3rd Squadron PSYOP Group.

Phone numbers are redacted.

Note to Readers: I find it disconcerting that the Ministry of National Defense (MND) continues to use the real names of personnel in special operation units and fighter pilots. Call signs would have been acceptable from a counter-intelligence perspective.

ABOVE: 10th Corps (第十軍團指揮部): Central Taiwan. The mountains on the patch are appropriate as the 10th encompasses some of the highest mountains of the Central Mountain Range some reaching 12,000 feet.
